Amanda Hankins, MSN, FNP-C

Family Nurse Practitioner

Amanda grew up in a small town in Nevada and her first encounter with a healthcare provider was a Nurse Practitioner, she knew immediately at a young age that was the career path she would take. She left two days after she graduated high school to move to what she thought was a metropolis—Reno, Nevada to start her journey. She graduated nursing school with the thoughts of immediately going to NP school, but life happened and she ended up married, moving to Utah, and having two kids. Once her kids were a little older she met her goal and received her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Westminster College.

Amanda started her career working on a medical floor in Reno, Nevada. After moving to Utah, she worked at the University of Utah on a high-risk pregnancy floor and NICU. She left there to pursue a job at Intermountain Homecare where she was a case manager for pediatric patients. Once, her kids were in school she decided to follow them and that is where she spent 7 years as a school nurse before graduating from NP school. She recently worked at A New View Counseling where she provided medication management for patients who are living with mental health concerns. That is where her passion for mental health started to blossom. She is also working at Westminster College at their Student Health office.

Amanda is comfortable working with patients of any age. She does enjoy working with adolescents and after her experience at Westminster, she has enjoyed working with the LGBTQ+ community.

I believe in keeping a good balance between family life and work life. I have always believed it is important to spend time doing something for myself and doing what I enjoy doing; whether that's spending time in the quiet, with people, exercising, or meditating.

My favorite thing is watching my kids learn, grow, and play sports including dance, baseball, and flag football. During my free time, I enjoy knitting, riding my mountain bike, and reading books. I am an avid reader for learning and enjoyment. I will often read 1-2 hours a night and many books per month. I am from a small town in North Eastern Nevada called Ely. Not many people know where Ely is located or that is one of the coldest places in the contiguous US. It was once home to the tallest building in the state of Nevada!

Having worked in mental health for a few years, I have seen the importance of collaboration between mental health therapists and medication prescribers. As a Nurse Practitioner I often don’t see the patients as often as they see their therapist, so knowing that there is a great team working together to provide the best possible care for my patients is reassuring.
