Heather Rimington

MSN, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Bio

Heather always wanted to be in healthcare. As a child and young adult, a relative required a lot of healthcare at their home. Heather was always willing to help whenever possible, and this instilled a passion for caring for others. As soon as she had the opportunity, she went to school to study nursing. She attended Nightingale College, where she gained her ADN, became licensed, and began work as a nurse at Ogden Regional Medical Center. While there, in between caring for her patients, she attended WGU university for her BSN. She then moved on to Lakeview Hospital and was the manager of the geriatric and adult psychiatric units there. While there, she decided to pursue her MSN and become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to enable her to care for her patients in a deeper way.

Heather has worked for HCA at Ogden Regional Medical Center as a float pool nurse, psychiatric nurse, HCA transfer center as a clinical nurse supervisor, and HCA Lakeview hospital as the behavioral health department manager. She then moved to Salt Lake Behavioral Health as an intake specialist and admissions nurse. She enjoys working with all populations, but has found working with individuals working through the challenges of mental health most rewarding.

Heather is working towards specializing in ADHD and is always pursuing further information on ways to help patients unique to this diagnosis.

From the Provider

I use simple, tried-and-true techniques. I have set routines that help me build habits so I don’t have to remember what comes next; I just do it. I truly believe a positive mental outlook can be achieved through physical activity. If I am having a bad day or I am bored, I will work out or go for a walk. I also use breathing techniques to slow my thoughts down and become more mindful and present. If I am struggling, I have an ice water trick that works the best in immediate situations, and I love to share that technique with all clients.

I love animals and the outdoors. I get my positive outlook from being able to get outdoors with my dog. I find most kinds of physical activity help me to work through thoughts that may be heavy or just stuck. I also find quiet time working on crafts, such as diamond, relaxing and grounding.

My treatment philosophy is simple: we are all human, no one is perfect, and we all deserve compassion. As far as my approach, I research all the time. You can bet that for whatever reason, a client may have scheduled with me, I have read through additional information. Already started looking up treatment options and usually have the beginnings of a plan or suggestion for my client. I may have to change my plan or suggestion depending on what I learn during our time together, but all the previous research means it doesn’t take me long to change to a different strategy to get my clients relief from what they may be going through.
